    I'll venture a guess and say the first rounders will be ugly?

If you always play weak opponents then you never are really tested. Just saying.
    I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. Playing better teams does make you better. Playing teams that are so much better than you that they could litteraly beat you by 100 does nothing for you. Playing teams that you could beat in that same fashion does nothing for you either.

    i dont have a problem with it at all, just noting its hard to get better by playing teams with no shot at beating you

    The only thing PV gained by playing Richlands and GC this year was points. They could have played a lesser team that could have could have actually done something against instead of running straight into the line all night and finishing with 30 yards rushing after subs got put in. What do you get out of that? It wasn't like getting thumped by Richlands helped them, they were just as horrible after they played them as before. Maybe worse from being so demoralized.
    You get the game experience of playing a team that good. Richlands is different, they are killers, but GC, Leb, and HC are all teams that PV is withing 4-5 TD's of, and beat Leb. I truly do believe PV gained more as a team getting beat like a drum at Gate City than JJK did by beating Coeburn by 40.

    Yes. But you should play teams that you should be able to stay within 4-6 td's of. If you're not you're not gaining anything but points. When you're getting assraped all night and struggling to get to the LOS on offense and when you're on defense and it's a parting of the red sea with 50+ yards scores all night, you get nothing from that.
    PV has played Richlands very tough and even beat them a couple years back, they were on the schedule and the only team that was truly 4-6 TDs better than PV. GC is much better, but not 50 points IMO. But lining up against Richlands, playing a team like that, helps the kids by getting them more physically accustomed to playing good teams, and knowing how to be great because they played a great team.

    Nope. I'm not suggesting they schedule Ervinton again either. They put 2 AA schools on the schedule because they won't get beaten by 60 but they can darn sure get beat.

    I'm not saying it's OK for a team of JJK's ilk to schedule Ervinton, Jenkins, or Wise County Christian. There's nothing wrong with them playing Rye Cove, Thomas Walker, or Coeburn. I would have been in favor of them playing a decent D2 or AA school like Honaker, Marion, Chilhowie, Abingdon, or even Grundy this year instead of all of the lesser teams because JJK could have competed with someone like that and they also could have lost.
    Theres nothing wrong with it either way. Im not saying anything negative about JJK, just that its hard to get better playing a team that you know you will beat by 30. Rye Cove isnt any good, neither is TW or Coeburn. JJK is considerably better than all those teams. JJK is that much better than those teams as PV is worse compared to GC, HC, and R-Lands.

    Ill ask you this;
    did JJK gain more from playing Rye Cove than PV did by playing Richlands, in terms of overall team growth?

    Again, yes. Becaue at least Kelly could operate their offense. PV did nothing except get tackled as soon as the ball was snapped. They did nothing on defense but hope someone tripped or fell. At least JJK was put in a position of having an opportunity to make a tackle, to get a 1 yard gain. Did it make JJK a better team beating up on them? Not much. But they got more out of it than PV did against Richlands. It's like saying a little league team gets better playing the Patriots. It's pointless. I think PV gained more from playing GC than JJK did RC. I'm not all for how JJK's schedule went, but I'm not completely against it either.

    I was talking about PV/GC and typed Richlands, my bad. Although I do believe PV learned some against Richlands, its sure as hell not very much.
